HI HANS
my friend LEON said that
he phoned you about his sponsorship for
our rally
he gave us a VRI HELMET,
2 SETS OF FINGERLESS GLOVES, AND A BATTERY CHARGER.
HE OWNS S J` S DIRT
MANIA, AND IS MORE INVOLVED WITH OFF ROADS, ALTHOUGH
HE DID HAVE A HONDA CB 900.
I AM TRYING TO CONVINCE
HIM TO BUY A V-MAX
MAYBE IT WOULD BE A GOOD
IDEA IF YOU SENT HIM THE V-MAX MAIL AS WELL, AS THIS COULD JUST BE
THE PUSH HE NEEDS,AS HE IS SELLING HIS OFFROAD AT THIS STAGE.
LOOKING FORWARD TO THE
RALLY

Due
to the injuries sustained from my bike accident I have been
incapacitated to update our website and compile a Newsletter, but
I now have recovered to such an extent that I can use my
right hand again to do some typing for a short period so here

We,
Vmaxers,
have
done it ! !
OUR 1st HISTORICAL VMAX ODYSSEY RALLY
now has
gone
down in the
SA Vmax SA History Books as a Rally that was different from the
usual Bike Rallies and, according to all the participants we spoke
to,
"THE
ODYSSEY RALLY WAS A GREAT SUCCESS"

TO ALL...... FOR YOUR WONDERFUL SUPPORT.
YOU HAVE BEEN GREAT AMBASSADORS OF
THE VMAXWORLD SA OWNERS GROUP.

the Manageress of KOINONIA, was also impressed with the Vmaxers
and would be pleased to Welcome you all again at the next ODYSSEY
RALLY ! !

The weather gods have looked after us.
Friday morning, on the way to the rally, some of the Maxers had a
bit of rain but for the rest of the weekend the sun was shining.
All Maxers
arrived in time and renewed old
friendships and made new
acquaintances.
After Dinner all had a good time
at our EMOYENI entertainment centre.
The bar
was well organized and Stocked by Shaun of the Botha's Hill
"Swine and Tankard Restaurant". His choice of Music played on
his Sound-System was also of an
excellent repertoire.
The Hills were full of
Vmax THUNDER.............
After breakfast it was
unanimously decided to go for a ride to UMHLANGA ROCKS and
visit the GATEWAY Shopping Mall and the Ski Club on the beach
for a drink. What a show they put up in front of the Harley
shop.
Sarge Armstrong, a well known
Durban Vmaxer, was the Road Captain.
After the Maxers left KOINONIA I
was left behind sitting on my chair and listening to the roaring
thunder of the
Vmaxes disappearing over the hills.
*After Lunch the
majority of guys on their Steeds went for a ride to Drummond
directed by Road Captain Nico Venter.
*Between 16:00 and
18:00 all bikes were on display to the public. The proceeds of the
entry fees for the display were donated
to The KOINONIA TRUST.
At the same time all
rally participants were scrutinizing the Maxes and voted for the
Most Beautiful Vmax of the Rally.
After the braai we had
the price giving for the Most Beautiful Vmax and the Lucky Draw.
The
1st Prize
for the most beautiful
Vmax was won by
Dok
Dokter, of Pietersburg, with his silver Max.
2nd prize
was won by 2 Maxers
Travis Bramley an Billie Willemse.
3rd prize
went to 2 other Maxers
who scored the same points for their Vmaxes - Willem Retters and
Nico Venter.
Mike de Vos, the
Product Manager Motorcycles of the SA Yamaha Importers,
apologized for not being able to attend our rally as he had to
fly to Taiwan to attend to uregent business matters.
Despite written
promises, made to Mike de Vos of YAMAHA SA, by Bike SA and the 2
Wheels TV program organizers to cover our Historical Rally
they were conspicuous in their absence.
NO APOLOGIES
RECEIVED WHATSOEVER ! !

Hi Hans,
I trust you are well
and getting stronger by the day.
Mike and I Iron butted
1070 kms yesterday. Bum still sore today.
Hans words cannot
describe the Rally. The coming together of the guys will stay with
me for a very long time. It was awesome to say the
least. To finally
meet you and put faces to the voices and e mails was great. I am
sure I am not alone when I say that if that is the way a rally is
organized I would attend one every month.
The food was also very
good. It would be great if a survey could be done, perhaps an
question an answer page on the web site with a comments window.
I will now finally
include a photo of myself and VMAX for you to place on the profiles
page.
Once again Awesome,
Awesome, Awesome
Cheers
John

a small comment to say what a great time we had at the 1st Annual
SA VMax Odyssey Rally. The +- 46 VMax bikes there were absolutely
mind boggling. The customizing and quality time together, swapping
stories and how-to-do this and how-to-do-that to your
bike......................
Lets hope that next year it will be a greater event with a lot
more VMax bikes present."

Hi Hans,
Just a short note of
thanks for a great gathering. It was fantastic meeting the rest of
the Vmaxers and finding so many people with the same passion for the
VMAX!
I hope your recovery
is swift!

The first National VMax'ers
Rally - Known as the Odyssey Rally.
It took
place in Shongweni (BOTHA'S HILL -
editor) in Kwazulu Natal this last weekend, period 27th
to 29th October and from all accounts a success indeed!
Congratulations are in order for all participants especially
so the hard working originator Hans Knop. Well done!!
A
number of our members went down in support of the historic
event which started on the Friday (Thursday was also good, I
heard) and ended on Sunday morning 29th.
Here
is the record as contributed by VO Deon van Wyk ....
Pics
by: Deon van Wyk & Michael Wood.
Hi
Dave
Here
is my report and a supporting pic on the VMax Odyssey Rally:
We
went to the first ever VMAX rally in SA and on the photo are
the proud VOG members gathered with Hans Knop, outside one of
the bungalows. |

Left to right: Ian Murchie,
Michael Wood, Hans Knop, Stefan van Wyk (standing) Neil Wood &
Deon van Wyk.
Unfortunately Hans had a riding
accident the previous weekend. Hans broke his collarbone, shoulder
blade and 3 broken ribs, unfortunately punctured a lung as well but
he was with us from Friday evening till we left this morning - and
that with his wife fetching him from hospital on Friday afternoon
and bringing him to the rally! (tenacious stuff hey??)
It was absolutely great to have all
the Vmax's together-from Port Elizabeth to Pietersburg (Polokwane).
Stefan did the rally on his yellow
Honda and was not at odds as there were also other non-VMax machines
in evidence during the occasion.
The ride was absolutely great with
just a little rain here and there (also speed traps and traffic
officers riding fast Golf GTI's )
We will all definitely be doing the
rally next year as well! It is to be an annual event!
Regards
Deon
